In the world Sarah Palin occupies, bloggers critical of her governership in Alaska get cease and desist phone calls. According to the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us/politics/14palin.html?_r=3&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin), Palin’s assistant, Ivy Frye, called a Wasilla blogger, Sherry Whitstine, “who chronicles the governor’s career with an astringent eye,” and told her to stop blogging. “You should be ashamed!” Ivy Frye told Whitstine. “Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now!”

No word on what Ms. Whitstine said in response, although an appropriate response really is a no-brainer: Whitstine should have cited the First Amendment of the Constitution and told Frye and her boss to take a hike.
An “examination of her swift rise and record as mayor of Wasilla and then governor finds that her visceral style and penchant for attacking critics — she sometimes calls local opponents ‘haters’ — contrasts with her carefully crafted public image,” the Times continues. “Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.”


In other words, Palin is sort of like a Mafia don, although there is no word if such vendettas have yet to produce bodies in Clintonesque fashion. She is apparently a Capo Crimine, sending out Capo Bastones to deal with commoners that dare criticize her. Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records.
Never mind the persistent doubts about her experience and ability. It looks like Sarah Palin will be a natural in the district of criminals.

Should John McCain take the election, is it possible Sarah Palin will use her office to go after those of us who consisently criticize the government?
It remains to be seen, however if so Palin will have some hefty tools at her disposal. Along with the two Patriot Acts of 2001 and 2006 and the Military Commission Act or 2006, Sarah may have the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act as a tool, that is if it ever gets out of the Senate.

As we know, this sort of legislation is not designed to go after Muslims in caves or even on the southside of Cleveland. It is designed to go after “domestic terrorists,” that is to say those who have a bone to pick with the government. If you doubt this, simply type “FBI antiwar” in Google and hit enter.

Come January, 2009, Sarah Palin may very well use her high position to go after the “haters.”

Though Dobson and Perkins reportedly attended the recent CNP meeting in Minneapolis, a full roster of guests would be nearly impossible to require. The CNP deliberately operates below the radar, going to excessive lengths to obscure its activities. Minnery added that his boss, Dobson, has yearned for a conservative female leader like Margaret Thatcher to emerge on the American scene. And while Palin is no Thatcher, "she has not rejected the feminine side of who she is, so for that reason, she will be attractive to conservative voters."

The members of the Council for National Policy are the hidden hand behind McCain's Palin pick. With her selection, the Republican nominee is suddenly -- and unexpectedly -- assured of the support of a movement that once opposed his candidacy with all its might. The vetting process worked exactly as it was supposed to work: it delivered a Republican candidate with a heaping plate of character flaws and serial judgment lapses who thus wouldn’t wince at reading fiction from a TelePrompTer to 37 million Americans. The real dark secret is that our country has been held hostage to this democracy-gutting strategy since the Reagan administration allowed money launderers, gun runners and their criminal defense lawyers to seize power in what is still inadequately called Iran-Contra. Could a man with the following credentials fail to sleuth out Palin’s character issues when most are readily available in newspaper and internet archives and the public domain? Mr. Culvahouse was a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Nuclear Failsafe and Risk Reduction; the Counterintelligence Advisory Panel to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (1989-1990); the President's Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB) and the President's Intelligence Oversight Board.

I can't take seriously anyone who just announces that he does not believe all of the extremely well-documented reports about Palin on ideological grounds, as if there were some conspiracy to just make up things about her afoot. Her "supporters" had never heard of her before she popped up out of nowhere at the Republican Convention and now they are defending her as if she were the Virgin Mary herself and extolling their supposed status as some sort of superpatriots here as if anyone is supposed to be impressed by that. If someone doubts something written about her, then put out some evidence to counter at least one of the facts that are coming out about her, because this dismissing all of this out of hand is simply a matter of these people sticking their heads in the sand and expecting people to be impressed by that. The Republican convention was mainly populated by geriatric types who got off on being able to ogle her while their wives watched. Most of the lies about Sarah Palin's record had been discovered before she made her acceptance speech. Yet, she repeated them, along with a misleading truth. It seems the idea is why let a little fact get in the way of an applause line.

We've had almost eight years of expedient lying from a president and vice president. I see no need for more. Yet, there are so many born-again McCainers who are enraptured with MooseMamaMania.

So, ol' "Straight Talk" McCain must be figuring why let the truth stand in the way of good hype?

The truth was known about her bridge to nowhere stand. She was for it. The truth was known that she only cancelled the bridge out of political expediency when funding had been cut and it endangered other "earmark" pork barrel spending for Alaska. It was known she did not send the money back.

However, in her acceptance speech, what did she say?

I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere.

If our state wanted a bridge, we'd build it ourselves. When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged — directly to the people of Alaska.

Then, we get the jet line. You know, she had a good story there. She identified a piece of wasteful spending in a poweful symbol. She campaigned against it, and got rid of it when elected, saving the taxpayers money. She coyly hedged her statement there and allowed the McCain campaign, the nominee included, to do the actual lying.

Wasilla had received few if any earmarks before Palin became mayor. She actively sought federal funds -- a campaign that began to pay off only after she hired a lobbyist with close ties to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) [emphasis added - ed], who long controlled federal spending as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He made funneling money to Alaska his hallmark.

As mayor, she used federal funds and borrowing to get a city of about 5,000 - 7,000 into $22 million in debt, and ended her term as she began with a city that had no water treatment plant. As mayor, she did lower property taxes, but raised sales taxes. Those who owned property got a break, part of which was consumed by the sales tax. Those who did not own property got an overall tax hike.

Then, there was the community sports center, for which Ms. Palin pushed through the sales tax hike.


The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land.

The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.

"It's too bad that the city of Wasilla didn't do their homework and secure the land before they began construction," said Kathy Wells,a longtime activist here. "She was not your ceremonial mayor; she was in charge of running the city. So it was her job to make sure things were done correctly."

It also appears she has ruled city and state government alike, insisting on total loyalty for continued employment or favor. That must rate high with her Bush handlers.

She even comes equipped with her own, built-in ethics scandal. No one will have to start one for her.

As for the snide attacks and lies about the Democrats in her acceptance speech. That's really not her fault. The speech wasn't written by, or even for, her.

In the meantime, she already had been given an old Bush Campaign handler to tell her what to do. If she truly objected to any of the things she said in the speech, she did not have the courage to stand up and defend her stand.

What's the difference from a true reformer and an opportunistic pretender? The truth.

In the end, she keeps on lying. Her supporters lap it up, despite the facts they are shown to prove her falsehoods.

It is not a disease that is unique to the Republican Party, wanting to believe something so much that truth only gets in the way. It just seems the disease has grown to epidemic proportions in the GOP over the past eight years.

Sadly, McCain, who once fought back nobly, now is suffering from a terminal case, and those who slimed him and lied about him and his family now embrace and defend him.
