Twain also had a very nice satire, related to the US dumbasses belief in the Manifest-destiny of the anglo-saxons.

The story goes something like:

At a speach of a candidate for US Senate, the public has been really bored, till the guy said "We the anglo-saxons when need something we just go and take it". This sentence invigorate the public a lot. There were standing ovations. As a mather of fact so successfull, the guy made this sentence a pivotal in his speches, everytime accepted with great entusiasm by the auditorium.

The thug is aware that loudness convinces sixty persons where reasoning convinces but one.

Patriot: The person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about.

It is wiser to find out than to suppose.

If we had less statesmanship we could get along with fewer battleships.

The low level which commercial morality has reached in America is deplorable. We have humble God fearing Christian men among us who will stoop to do things for a million dollars that they ought not to be willing to do for less than 2 millions.

Prophecy: Two bull's eyes out of a possible million.

All schools, all colleges, have two great functions; to confer, and to conceal, valuable knowledge. The theological knowledge which they conceal cannot justly be regarded as less valuable than that which they reveal. That is, when a man is buying a basket of strawberries it can profit him to know that the bottom half of it is rotten.

Nothing incites to money-crimes like great poverty or great wealth.

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society.

I like going back and reading these old threads from before the invasion.

Back when I thought baltoga believed what he said...

Back when iraq posed such a grave danger to our immediate safety that nothing short of invasion/occupation was required

:P

I often wish that we still had access to the postings from the old forum

Of course Brendon! I was also commenting on KoWT's remarks - sometimes when things are put so well and in perspective, nothing more needs to be said other than an affirmation.

BTW, I see now that you've eaten your Wheaties, you are much more chipper. :D
