.....providing support. Germany is assigning 2,600 soldiers to guard 95 U.S. bases and facilities within the country, and Schr?der has promised the Americans that they could use these bases to conduct any war .

And chairing the UN Security Council.

Does anyone happen to know where the UNSC
chair even has a vote?

As well, along with the Dutch, the Germans have
assumed command of UN peacekeeping forces in
Afghanistan.

I should also point out that the
German terrorist arrest record
is exemplary.

Considering the USA liberated Germany from Nazi tyranny it's a small price to pay.

The Russians did far more to 'liberate'
Germany than all of the other allies put
together.

The race to Berlin was much about who would hold influence in Europe. The USA and Russia split the Germany and Europe into their sphere of influences.

Democracy versus Communism.

And in the end Democracy won the hearts and minds of the people.

Never mind your race. Race - schmace.

There would have been no race
unless Russia paid the large price it
paid. The largest, by orders of magnitude,
of any...and taking down the 3rd Reich
while paying it.

Hitler's folly, maybe, but the battles were
fought. No denying that.. Do I need to
find and post the numbers of NAZI
battalions the Russians took down
compared to the rest?

Russia no doubt paid the biggest price and had the best opportunity to build everlasting relations with those they liberated. However, liberation quickly became retribution. This of course led people to flee and how did Russia respond? By building the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall to keep their "liberated" masses in.

Well - they did have this ideology
and if you read George F Kennan,
you will see that there were periods
in the relationship between Russia
and the west before the advent of
the nuclear bomb where more or
less normal relationships could have
persisted.

The immediate aftermath of WWI was a crucial
opportunity missed by the west to
listen carefully to Russia. Instead,
the west, led by France, was more
interested in taking a pound of flesh
off Russia for not sticking with WWI.

It was just a terrible, awful time of
bad commmunication in 20th Century
history and it cost us in terms of WWII
and in terms of a relationship with
Russia.

I find your history book wanting.

You only ever seem to want to go back
as far as WWII.

To you, Blahtoga, I recommend
reading Russia and the West Under
Lenin and Stalin
, by George F Kennan.
I guarantee it will
open your eyes.

I don't think Mackenzie King was a journalist or propagandist.

After he met Hitler, he came back as fast as he could and prepared the country.
