If today is to be an omen of what Vaughanies test captaincy is to be, perhaps we were better off with the autocratic regime. At least we frequently got lots of runs.

No idea of the odds, Trav.
England will draw this game too. The weather angels are with Blighty for this season.:D

BTW, SA will go up to 550 this time, methinks.

Right! That's it! Enough of this leather on
willow shite ... I mean c'mon ... 336-1. What are
we doing ... bowling under arm?!?!

I hereby resign all my associations to English
cricket ... a veritable oxymoron if ever I've
heard one!

It's ten weeks to the RWC. I desire genuine
aspirations of grandeur. Farewell dear friends.

SA 398/2. Smith 206 n.o. The funny thing is they aren't able score even 4 runs an over. Run rate is only 3.78.

I suppose we have to wait till they tire themselves out.

Yawn - this game was over as a contest yesterday.

I just do not believe that we cannot take more than 1 wicket a day. There must be a way of getting smith out. Beamers. Daisy cutters. Anything! They glue themselves so solidly to the crease it would probably take the RAF to unstick them cheaply.

I do not think we can draw this one. It'll be an innings defeat, and I mean that. Barry Richards thinks that SA will try and make 700, and I cannot disagree.

To concede 1 double century could be a misfortune, to concede 2 looks like carelessness.

Excuse me while I go and kill myself.

Easy mate. I admit it is a bit galling when you cant get the opposition out without them tiring themselves out, but that's cricket sometimes. Look at the bright side. Smith hasn't scored more than Lara who scored 375 against England. 550-575 before Smith declares, is my guess. It is 516/3 now. Smith will wait for Dippenaar to get his 50.
If he had been an Aussie, he would have declared by now and got the bowlers bowling at the batsmens' throats. He knows he doesn't have a good bowling attack (forget England's 173 in the first innings, which was an aberration or just plain nerves).

It will probably start to rain in a couple of hours and not stop till the match ends.;)

England 417/9. Andy Flintoff 142 from 145 balls. 92 runs to get and 1 wicket in hand. 25 overs to go.

Flintoff is the 'boy on the burning deck' like Casabianca.

Wagers, gentlemen?

Oops! I spoke too soon. Blighty just lost by an innings and 92 runs. Flintoff stumped off Adams. Pity he had a rush of blood to his head. Boys will be boys, as the saying goes. And that was the only wicket that Adams got.
Hope there is a better show the next time around.

Well, I don't like to say 'I told you so', but I told you so.

And when we remember that SA will actually get even stronger with the return of Kallis...

That's the spirit, trav. The whole world is cheering England on, methinks. Flintoff seems to be the new hero as far as Indian schoolboys are concerned.:)

So okay ... I did cast the odd glance at the telly
on Sunday. I was in the middle of a spot of
weight training when some fella starting
banging Pollock all over the West End ... Flintoff
they said ... can't be I thought ... a) he's
English, and B) we're not playing the Kiwis.

Imagine my surprise.

142 from 146 balls with 5 sixes and 18 fours is as good an innings as you can ever hope to see. Indian TV channels are showing highlights of Flintoff's innings under the Master Blaster series. So what if the match was lost. Flintoff has captured our hearts.

"Please don't despair, me pommie mates, the summer's not over yet."

But it is that that is driving me to despair. How many more times will Smith make double tond against our seemingly hopeless bowlers.

Maybe you should try opening the bowling with Ashley Giles?
