Actually this would be a semi-repeat of history. Iran can only go so far in their funding.

The main reason the afgahns lasted so long against the Soviets is because of the sheer number of arms the US supplied them.

Britain has said that they will begin the withdrawal of 5500 troops from Iraq and send more to Afghanistan.
