Sunday, amid threats of another U.S.-led attack, Iraq unveiled a memorial to the 403 people killed at the shelter on Feb. 13, 1991. Most of the victims were women and children.

The Amariya bombing was the worst civilian tragedy of the Gulf War. Reporters who visited the site saw charred bodies of women, children and men being pulled from the wreckage.

Iraq's vice president called it "one of the most horrible crimes committed by the evil American administration."

A man who was one of only 14 survivors and still bears physical scars said the memories still run in his blood.

Mourners recall the night it rained missiles

HANA AMED was 32 years old and pregnant when she was killed, with her four children and her husband, in the al-Amiriya shelter in western Baghdad on February 13, 1991.

The family had gone underground on a freezing winter night, halfway through Operation Desert Storm. They thought that they would be safe from the rockets and missiles that were raining down on their city.

Iraq's disingenuous slobbering over civilian casualties begs the question "If Saddam cared so much about civilians, why did he invade Kuwait"???? If he cared about his "civilians" now, he would be feeding, clothing and housing them with the money he's hoarding from sales of oil. Maybe you should look at the ratio of millionaires and billionaires versus poverty-stricken "civilians" in Iraq. It's very telling.
