THE JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER

Has been completed in early stages, test craft are already built.

Biding has been done, i forget who won the bid though.

thats the f-35 i thought or something.

the F-22 RAPTOR is a fully stealth fighter, it could take out a mig 35 before the mig even saw it.

"The Defense Acquisition Board approved the F-22 Raptor to enter low-rate initial production, Pentagon officials announced 15 August 2001. The decision means Lockheed-Martin will build 10 F-22s using fiscal 2001 funds, and 13 in fiscal 2002. There were currently eight F-22s already flying"

In your mind.....

(Kidding aside, I'll admit that I don't very much keep up with the world of aviation, )

...You are confused...;)

My office is about 300 meters from Andrews Air Force Base, it may have been Air Force One, or an old warbird getting ready for the next air show.

A lot of stuff flys in and out of here. 8*)

A-10s (Md Guard), AV8As, F-16s (DC Guard), C-130s, C-17, C-5A, C-141, F-18s, Pave Low, Huey, foreign dignataries, what ever...

They go by so close, I can read the pilots name on the back of his uniform laundry tags.

I can count the rivets on his tail.

( I have found myself under my desk involuntarily...)

The United States only has a limited number of F-22's, this plane is already a few years old. Just think about this for a second, The US doesn't have a reason to replace the F-22 yet because American planes rule the sky! If Russia came out with a better aircraft, how long do you think it would take the US to come up with a better one. I'm pretty sure that the design plans for the F-23, F-24 or F-30 are sitting in a safe someplace. There is no reason to build it.

BTW Russians-Americans have always been competing

First came out Mig-25 Foxbat, was the best in the world, then came out F-15 and F-16 which was the best then came out Mig-29 and Su-27, Mig-29 and F-15/F-16 should arguably be the same but then Su-27 came out and was the counter to them, then came out Mig-31/35 which own f-15 and F-16 hands down then F-22 will come out and will own them then russians will make soemthing better than that and then Americans will make something better than

and it goes on and on

for sure we got other planes half way in development sitting in some bunker.

We need to make sure we stay on top.

Doesnt take long to fall behind

Yeah, look at the Mig-25, or the M-29 the basic airframe is pretty good.

American test pilots have flown them, they have " undocumented" flight habits that a good pilot would not need.

These characteristics could be used, but why would a good pilot need them? The old F-104 Starfighter had some abilities that pilots were instructed to not even to try. The M-29 must have the record for fast "snap rolls", sometimes without even trying, lol. (so I read) More like tumbled dice...

Think of the F-100 Super Sabre and the Saber dance, later known as a "Cobra". The stunt is great for Airshows, but even a good pilot can crash and burn. (Paris Air Show)

(or something like that)

get it?

My dad was a fighter pilot, he said being shot at was not that much fun, the things will crash and burn by accident all by themselves, if you screw around too much, you will have to hit the silks.

Yeah they build the best ejection seats 'cause their planes always get shot down when confronted by our fighters. To be honest the SU-37s and SU24 are top notch but Western quality has never been matched by Russian design firms.

stability vs manueverability

trade offs and compromises

Look at the Tornado, not really the best at anything (other than fastest at low altitude), but damned useful overall.

Philosophical.. etc.

Lots of Russian planes can land on rough airstrips, but how many can land on aircraft carriers?

Yawn...

100 tons
