It's Chomsky-time...

...the current scenario in Iraq.

Polls reveal more support for the planned war in the US than elsewhere, but the numbers are misleading. It is important to bear in mind that the US is the only country outside Iraq where Saddam Hussein is not only reviled but also feared. There is a flood of lurid propaganda warning that if we do not stop him today he will destroy us tomorrow. The next evidence of his weapons of mass destruction may be a

Blah, blah, blah...

And a majority of Europeans wanted peace with Adolf Hitler, made it, and suffered the consequences.

Fast forward 50+ years and the appeasers are marching Europe down the same path.

Saddam Hussein cannot conceivably be compared with Hitler.

What a stock, lapdog-esque, answer...

You can tell you're American; you're actually afraid of Saddam's Iraq.

When Europe was so keen on appeasing Hitler, it was because they knew what Hitler was holding, weapons-wise.

Iraq is a ruined country that has less in common with Hitler's Germany than even the USA does.

Oh yes you can!

Appease Saddam Hussein and you will have a Hitler. Confront Saddam Hussein and you will rid a Hitler.

May I remind you of your beloved Prime Minister Chamberlain pathetically waving the worthless treaty with Hitler in the air represented cowardly toadying, with the most disastrous consequences.

You're just stupid.

"Appease Saddam Hussein and you will have a Hitler. Confront Saddam Hussein and you will rid a Hitler."

Come on. Explain precisely HOW? Hitler was a surpisingly popular leader at the outbreak on WW2. Saddam isn't very popular in his country. Hitler had the second most powerful military machine in the world (after the USSR) and the top quality generals to match. Saddam has a crappy military with obscelete eqipment, badly trained conscripts and low morale. Hitlers country had a strong economy and fairly high industrial output (that got higher) on the outbreak of war. The less said about Iraqs economy and industry the better. Hitler commited genocide. Saddam hasn't, and won't. Hitler tried to invade most countries in Europe, I can't see Saddam invading the whole of the Middle East. So where are you getting the comparison???

True, and both had/have dark hair therefore they must be the same. :)

Logical fallacy:
My dog has 4 legs
My Cat has 4 legs
Therefore my cat is a dog. :)

Can be derived into the political varient:
We must do something
This is something
Therefore we must do it

I love Yes Minister! ;)

Quite robust and clear statement also addressing the
Aznar-Barroso-Berlusconi-Bliar position detached from their
peoples.

No doubt that the most basic Democratic principles are at stake
regarding the Iraq issue.

I don't normally call people stupid unless they say something that is utterly stupid.

Claiming that Saddam Hussein can legitimatly be compared to Adolf Hitler strikes me as beign very stupid indeed.

Baltoga,
In the old forum you always came across as intelligent in your posts. What has changed? You are making comparisons here that are totally incorrect.

zxb,

Here's your defence of why Prme Minister Chamberlain made peace with Hitler:

Hitler was a surpisingly popular leader at the outbreak on WW2.

Hitler had the second most powerful military machine in the world (after the USSR) and the top quality generals to match.

Hitlers country had a strong economy and fairly high industrial output (that got higher) on the outbreak of war

Appease, appease, appease!

Only a cowardly toad would make such justifications.
