hey all :::::::::::

without this female singer, without this woman, we would not have had exactly the same 1960's as we did.

yes; if it had not been joan baez, it would have been someone else, we needed a woman to lead the singing;

and that woman was JOAN BAEZ.

and this is one of the best.

I'm a jazz fan, so Blossom Dearie was certainly entertaining for me, but it wasn't enough to knock my own favourite, Dianna Krall, off her perch.  I have no idea how to embed a video here, but here's a link to Dianna Krall doing Fly Me To The Moon.

OOPs!  I think I just learned how to imbed a video after all.

hey colombo ::::

here is another dianna krall with a very good band, but the recording of her voice is not so good at all. --

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=A-G3vJkJrgg

and  she has a great selection of standards with the support of a good group. here is one where she plays the piano very nicely, but again the voice track is bad.

thanks for dropping a line.

I can't really say this front lady is a favourite like Diana Krall, but she is a very good song stylist and though I'm sure she's been hoofing for years, to me she's a new discovery.  The band is called the Leftover Cuties, and they are from California.

And if I'm going to include the Leftover Cuties, I may as well offer a little memorial posting for the late Amy Winehouse.

Tarja Turunen, before she finished "art song" (whatever that is) on Karlsruhe Music Academy. Now she's too artistic for my taste.

I can get on that bandwagon.  Do you think I can buy her CD's and DVD's in Canada?  Can they be ordered over the Internet?  I want some myself, and I know people who would love Tarja Turunen for a birthday or Christmas gift.  Where is this gifted woman from?  Is she still there, or has she been swallowed by a big American music machine?

This thread has me chasing music all over the Internet, and you'll never guess my latest find.  Former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, is married still (I think) to French-Italian song stylist and one time nude model, Carla Bruni.  I live under a rock, so I didn't even know she sang.  I just remembered that famous shot of her leaning over a grand piano with her dandy little French caboose on full display, so once again this is a new discovery for me.  The former first lady of France can sing the blues.  Imagine my shock.

She's from Finland. In the mid 1990s she went into heavy metal after 2 years of church singing study on Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. After about 10 years she went back to academy, finished her studies, and started independent career.

Her older stuff is on YouTube, all you have to do is search for "Angels Fall First", "Oceanborn", "Wishmaster", "Century Child", "nightwish once", download and burn. If you are interested in the "new" Tarja, her website would be a good place to start: http://www.tarjaturunen.com/en/ .

She seems to be very good at separating her personal and public life. On celebrity gossip sites she's sometimes listed, but never mentioned. Quite a feat, huh?

Nah, I don't think so. Jefferson airplane were hippies, while Nightwish is gothic, majestetic almost. Remember, Tarja studied church singing before she went metal. That's very obvious here:

Some choir girl, huh? :devil:
