Google Adsense bans Russia's RT from Youtube

The move by Google to expunge RT from its premium advertising service without any prior notice is “absolutely unacceptable” but will not have an adverse effect on the channel’s outreach or its profits, RT Deputy Editor-in-Chief Kirill Karnovich-Valua said.

RT, with millions of subscribers across its channels, has for years been ahead of the competition as the most viewed TV news network on YouTube, setting several records since it registered on the platform in 2007. Last month, the RT network hit another milestone after its multi-language videos were watched over 5 billion times.

RT Deputy Editor-in-Chief Kirill Karnovich-Valua expressed regret over the lack of communication from Google, which failed to properly notify RT of this important update.

“RT has been Google’s premium partner since 2010 and accredited to an official status of the most watched TV news network on YouTube. The fact that RT is no longer included in the Google Preferred advertising list in the US in itself does not affect RT distribution and monetization on the platform.

“Yet, it is absolutely unacceptable that, while there were no notifications of any policy changes sent to RT, such internal info appears to have been leaked to the US media by Google.

“This speaks to the unprecedented political pressure increasingly applied to all RT partners and relationships in a concerted effort to push our channel out of the US market entirely, and by any means possible.”

The report that Google had removed RT from its ad package was first carried by Bloomberg, which cited Alphabet Inc.’s spokeswoman as its source.

According to the publication, the move is linked to the Senate investigation into the Kremlin’s alleged role in Donald Trump’s election as president of the US.

Since a declassified report by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) into alleged Russian meddling was published in January, RT has been propelled to the center stage of the investigation, making it the target of a witch hunt.

Google Preferred aggregates the most popular content on the video hosting service using algorithms that assess the popularity of the channel, a YouTube spokesperson told Kommersant.

“The service provides advertisers access to 5 percent of the most popular content. The list of channels on Google Preferred varies dynamically and is updated regularly.”

According to the spokesperson, channels that have been removed from its ad package “can return to Google Preferred with future updates.”

In September, the US Department of Justice sent a letter to the company that supplies all services for RT America, demanding that it register as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). The request risks compromising the personal data of employees and “may pose a real danger” to their safety “in the witch hunt atmosphere which has been established in the US,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated last week.

Meanwhile, no proof of RT’s alleged influence on the 2016 US election has been provided.

“RT was mentioned in the report over 100 times, but not a single example of election interference was given,” Zakharova added.

In the hunt for “Russian meddling,” US lawmakers have recently shifted their focus to social media, with Google, Twitter, and Facebook called to testify before Congress.

Heh. Vimeo has had similar grand delusions of their own greatness. That's one YouTube alternative of many. rutube.ru is a Russian video site that appears to be like YouTube as well. So, again, go on over there and have fun being "free" or whatever. They probably don't offer anything like YouTube's advertising service, and of course their relative lack of popularity will mean far fewer viewers anyway, but at least you can go put your money where your mouth is. Or rather, your favorite whiny kооk YouTubers can. But they won't.

Vladimir Putin fires back: ‘Close down RT, and we will close down CNN’

Maria Zakharova said any move made against Russian media working in US “will get a tit-for-tat response”.

Russia’s communications regulator has responded to the US “RT witch-hunt” unfolding in Congress, after US Senator Mark Warner hinted that RT’s Twitter advertising poses a threat to America’s “democratic institution

Frankly I don’t think they understand how serious this problem is. https://twitter.com/markfollman/status/

Russia’s response is firm and clear, threaten RT and we will crack down on CNN’s operations in Russia…an outlet which the regulator says is “violating Russian media law.”

Reuters reports…

According to Zerohedge, Russian president Vladimir Putin also weighed in on the hysteria and mounting pressure being placed on RT saying that “such pressure on Russian media is unacceptable” and that any hostile actions taken against Russian media in the U.S. would be met with a “tit-for-tat response.”

Russia’s communications regulator on Friday accused U.S. TV channel CNN International of violating Russian media law and said it had summoned the broadcaster’s representatives in connection with the matter.

The Russian foreign ministry accused Washington on Thursday of putting unwarranted pressure on the U.S operations of Kremlin-backed media outlet RT, and warned that Moscow could take tit-for-tat measures.

President Vladimir Putin told a meeting of Russia’s Security Council on Friday that Russian media outlets working abroad were facing growing and unacceptable pressure, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, said in a statement on its website that it would look at warning CNN about the alleged violations, which it said also breached the terms of its broadcast license.

It did not say what breaches of Russian laws the U.S. broadcaster had made, adding it would continue its “systematic monitoring” of foreign mass media outlets registered in Russia.

The Duran reported that RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said that she wasn’t aware paying for advertising on social media platforms like Twitter is now considered suspicious or harmful in a developed democracy such as the United States.

Putin, meeting permanent members of his Security Council, “touched upon the issue of ongoing and at times growing pressure on Russian mass media outlets in some foreign countries”, Peskov told a conference call with reporters.

“It was stressed that such pressure on Russian media is unacceptable,” he added. He did not name the countries where the Kremlin was concerned Russian media were coming under pressure.

The Foreign Ministry’s Zakharova said any move made against Russian media working in the United States “will get a tit-for-tat response”.

“And who it falls on, this should be easy for Washington to work out. The clock is ticking,” she said at a weekly briefing on Thursday.

“This is forcing us to go a step further and come clean that we also spent money on advertising at airports, in taxis, on billboards, on the Internet, on TV and radio. Even CNN ran our commercials,” Simonyan said. “By the way, similar campaigns are conducted by the American media in the Russian segment of Twitter. It’ll be very interesting to find out how much they spend on it, who they target and for what purpose.”

The distrust in the media in the US is “very, very high,” Gordon said, adding that people “trust loggers and garbage men” more than the media.

Largely as a result of Russian propaganda efforts, it would seem.

No, Russia has no connection to the deceptive media in America, they do this without help.

If you've ever had a news story report something you've done, you would know from personal experience how they twist and alter the story to fit their opinion of you.   I've seen it happen both ways, both favorable twisting of a story for someone they like, and unfavorable twisting for someone they don't know at all.   It isn't Russia, it is us.

Our media is EXTREMELY opinionated and they generally take the side of the government on stories involving private citizens vs. the government.   I know from personal experience.   Media news stories will praise or ridicule depending on whether they think you are with them or against them.  And today, that means with the globalist agenda.   If you are not with that, you are not going to get favorable media coverage.
