Peace and mercy of Allah be on you.... Few days ago a respected elderly scholar of Jama'at, respected Usman Chinese sahib passed away. ‘inna lillahe wa inna elehey rajeoon’ (We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return).....In 1949, through a special destiny, Allah the Exalted enabled him to leave a remote area of China, go to Pakistan and accept Ahmadiyya Islam. He wrote memoirs how Allah the Exalted continued to treat, guide and enabled him to accept Ahmadiyya Islam, gain religious knowledge and devote his life to serve faith......He narrated faith-boasting events about his life to various people. People have written about him. There is enough material about his life events, services and character so that a book can be written. Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Pakistan can do this work well.

--

Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah V (may Allah be his Helper) said he is stating about this Dervish human, life-devotee, missionary of Movement, practicing scholar, friend of Allah. This mention is role model for life-devotees and missionaries especially, and for everyone, for each Ahmadi.

==

He was famous by name ‘Usman Chini’ sahib. his real name was  ‘Muhammad Usman Chung Sai Chou. He passed away on 13 April 2018. He was born on 13 December 1925 in a Muslim family in Chinese province Anhui. In 1946, after high school he did one year advanced course in Nanchang University, then began to study in Nanchang National Central University, department of politics. He was not interested in politics; he thought to learn law, philosophy or religion, he considered to go to Turkey to get education, but he came to Pakistan in 1949.....By making personal research he did Bai'at, began to study in Jamia Ahmadiyya (Ahmadiyya religious institution), passed short course for missionaries. He devoted life to serve faith in August 1959. In 1964 he passed ‘shahid’ degree from Jamia Ahmadiyya. Afterwards, he served as life-devotee and missionary in Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia.... He was blessed to do Umrah and Hajj......He left wife, son and two daughters.

==

After the migration of Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah IV (may Allah be pleased with him) in 1986, various offices of Jama'at were made in London, as works increased. Translation work of literature of Jama'at increased. A Chinese desk was made too. Usman sahib was called in 1986. He did Chinese translation of books, especially noteworthy is Chinese translation of Holy Quran. He wrote books about creed and teaching of Jama'at.

==

He began translation of Holy Quran in Chinese in 1986 on instruction from Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah IV (ra), translation was completed after 4 year hard work.... Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah IV (ra) wanted it done by 100 year centennial celebration. Usman sahib was in need of a proper helper to improve and review work. This work was not possible in UK or Pakistan, as expert in language and religion at same time was very difficult to find. He went to China and Singapore to get suggestions from language experts. Eventually a very good Chinese translation of Holy Quran was prepared by the grace of Allah the Exalted.

--

There were other translations of Holy Quran were already present before this one and latter too were made.  But the translation of Jama'at Ahmadiyya is a distinctive masterpiece due to great religious knowledge of Jama'at.

--

Upon its publication, many reviews from native speakers of language from China and other countries greatly praised it. Some objected inclusion of Ahmadiyya commentary.

(www dot islam dot cn/HTM/Books_Start.htm )

--

Chinese translation by Jama'at Ahmadiyya is very popular and is in great demand....Chinese professor Lin son has mentioned our translation of Holy Quran in his  book about translations of Holy Quran in Chinese language in this century. There is review about our translation in about 15 pages.

--

Professor wrote when common scholars do translation, they do not translate certain words and write same Arabic word at the place or explain in side note. This gives impression that part was unclear for them, till end. The distinction of translation of Mr. Usman is that he translate such places too and also mentions references of base why such translation was made. Professor noted down he wrote review about translation of Quran, afterwards he met Mr. Usman many times, his impression is Mr. Usman is a simple, down to earth, sincere, pure person who practices seriously on commandments. I invited him for feast in Ramadan, he keep Fasts and believes Holy Quran is the best Book of Shariah. Though some parts of his translation and commentary are not in accordance with Chinese Sunni sect, but can it be denied this person believes in Tauheed, loves Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and follows commandments of Allah.

The titles of Chinese literature, which Usman Chini sahib prepared in his supervision, are ‘my life and ancestry’, ‘introduction to morality’, outline of Islam, 7 books are his own.... He supervised 35  translations; An outline of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at, Outline of Islam, Fundamental questions and answers about Islam, Islamic concept of jihad and Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at, Ahmadiyya Muslim community’s  contribution to the world, What is need of religion and Islam in human life...

In home life: His wife writes that when marriage proposal came, her father did not give consent due to big age difference. She was 20 while he was about 50. Father did not  mention the proposal for many months, then he placed letter before her so that she should decide by self...She had seen in dream she is standing in a large field, empty handed, in a foreign country and suddenly she thought what would happen to her. Then she saw a person in white dress at some distance, and she heard a voice that your all needs will be fulfilled by this person...

--

After seeing the letter, she saw Usman sahib in dream, he was in white dress and standing near her....Later when she was shown his photograph, she recognized he was the person in dream.... So she accepted the marriage proposal.

--

Four years passed in engagement, passport was not being prepared. At that time, conditions were not good, Cultural Revolution was taking place, it was very difficult for her to go due to political situation.

--

Usman sahib had seen in dream when Mao Zedong will pass away, wife would come. ...  Usman sahib decided to write letter to him. When he was going to post the letter, news came that Mao Zedong has died.

--

There fiancé of Usman sahib received her passport, and she came to house of her father. That night it rained a lot. Prior to it, there was drought. Due to heavy rain, water flow created large erosion cuts in land. A non-Ahmadi neighbor remarked: Had you come earlier our drought would have finished earlier...She left china after a week with almost nothing...She reached in Pakistan in August 1978...Nikkah ceremony took place...They had to go to Chinese embassy...On their way, in train journey, due to misunderstanding she came out of the train one station earlier...A police officer helped her to reach Chinese embassy, she was wearing niqab and coat, staff were not believing she was Chinese, they gave her a Chinese magazine to read it. Then a taxi was arranged. Fortunately, an Ahmadi person helped her further to reach destination......Life with Usman sahib began.

--

Mrs. Usman writes that Usman sahib was a good husband, rather he was her spiritual teacher. He taught her how to offer Salaat. After leading Salaat in mosque, he would lead her in Salaat in home and teach her Arabic words of Salaat word-by-word and line by line and advised to keep practicing. In case of forgetting, keep prayer book near. He taught her basic-book to learn Arabic reading of Holy Quran in six months. Then he taught her to recite Holy Quran along with translation so that she should maintain interest.  He was a very patient person, he would teach subject in great depth with examples.

--

He was very kind with relatives. He had made her mother to come to live with them and served her very much even in times of scarcity....Whole life of Usman sahib consisted of attachment with his duty....In time of health he would work in office till late night and sometimes till morning....In home, his most important work was to give good training to children..... He had no interest in small worldly matters....He was very simple in eating habits and dresses.

==

Elder daughter of Usman sahib, a doctor, writes that he was very merciful, kind, very hard working, untiring, always keeper of good hope and humble human.

He would:

-- ask all of us, siblings, and sons-in-law to join in talks in all matters.

-- take interest in our education, asked what teachers said.

-- say Allah the Exalted has sent you to convey His message, especially to Chinese.

-- regularly advice us to keep progressing in spirituality, morality and knowledge.

-- often say to us, by seeing your personality practice and attitude,  people should feel Being of God exists because those children who believe God they are much better than children who do not believe.

-- advise there should be regularity in work which you begin.

-- never rebuked children, he always advised with affection. If he ever  did severity, it was about regularity in offering Salaat.

-- take us five times to mosque to offer Salaat to make it our habit.

-- give us a book in holidays, to read and then he would take test.....once he gave us a very old copy of Noah’s Ark for reading, and asked us to read and said its urdu is not very difficult. It is first book in urdu which he read byself in Jamia Ahmadiyya. (www dot alislam dot org/library/book/noahs-ark/ )

-- He was concerned about pardah /  covering, he asked her to observe it in university too, if majbori to remove niqab then it can be done during education only and do not apply make up, he asked it from Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah IV (ra).

==

His other daughter writes, he would:

-- say to us, you should always make effort to get moon, if moon is not obtained stars will be achieved i.e. always have high aim.

-- encourage us to regularly offer 5 Salaat in congregation and to offer Tahajjud.

-- wake up us for Fajr Salaat by sprinkling water drops on us.

-- draw our attention to read books of Hazrat promised Messiah (as) and Khulafa (www dot alislam dot org/library/authors/ ).

-- answer our question with patience for hours. (it is model for parents too).

-- always use God given capabilities and never waste those.

-- say what deed you do, do it with intention as worship to God.

-- give example of spiritual progress is like staircase. In it, stay comes some times, but step moves to further elevation.

-- teach us simplicity, humbleness and giving priority to others over us.  When he was saddar / president Jama'at Islamabad, Tilford, UK , central heating was being installed in all houses, he made sure, that work was to be done in our house in the end.

Usman chini sahib writes in his biography that, in China, certain teachings of Buddhism, Confucius-ism and Taoism are mixed up. Many Chinese practice these teachings at a time. And, in this era, they have made a self-made religion by combining many teachings. In this religion, a special attention is given to human’s moral state....When my interviews were published in 3 Chinese newspapers,  Deism dasta society, new religion, of malayasia asked me to write an essay about moral teaching of Islam so that they publish it with that teaching of other religions in a magazine...So I wrote the essay in this regard...They replied (to him) you sent us a  magnificent essay, we are very thankful to you, you have mentioned facts of Islam  in unbiased way, your discussion was fine and elegant. It shows you have acquired knowledge of religions in very good way.  Chinese people does not know Islam yet, the reason being, message of Islam is not conveyed to them thus far. Now you have come in Singapore for publication of Islam (then Usman sahib was missionary in Singapore), it is essential that Islam should spread in Chinese living in these countries, and Chinese people get blessings from it.

Various comments and observation by Usman sahib’s admirers, friends and colleagues :

An old time classfellow in Jamia writes, Usman sahib was person of  virtues, good qualities, and pure ways in his prime youth. He would offer Salaat with deep passion, pray with extreme tazro, keep extra fasting, offer Nawafil, was very fond of tasbih, tahmid and remembrance of Allah. He was very thankful to Allah for getting bounty of Islam Ahmadiyya. He always showed love, sincerity and loyalty...In time of studentship, sometimes tears flew from his eyes due to sadness and desire to meet his mother and brothers and due to ruling system there, would pray with extreme entreaty and begging to his Real Creator for his aims. Those scenes are enviable for me even in advanced age.  It is reality that whatever that man of God asked God in that time of testing, God accepted his sincerity and loyalty and gave him everything by the blessing of Islam Ahmadiyya and granted lot of mercies. Rather, people too gained benefit from acceptance of his prayers. .....The image of pious elder scholars whose prayers were accepted by Allah, was seen in Usman sahib.....He had intelligence of momin, he was very careful in giving opinion in matters of Jama'at and management. He would respect system of Jama'at and asked his dears to do so, he kept full spiritual reverence for Khilafat and thankfulness of its benevolence. When someone would ask him for prayer, he ask him, have he first requested Khalifah of time for prayers?

==

In last few years too, he continued to go to mosque to offer prayers in time, he would stop many time due to shortness of breath.

==

Non-ahmadis men and women would seek his advice too and they would testify that their big problems were solved by requesting him to pray for them. He was beneficial for everyone regardless of race and religion....Those people  remembered him for long time even after he went to UK.

==

He took care of his aged mother very well.

==

A person from Kyrgyzstan writes, he met Usman sahib in a journey in airplane. When plane began to fly, Usman sahib recited ‘bismillah’, then on the person began to know him, and learned that he had translated Holy Quran in Chinese language. Later Usman sahib went to his home and they had brief discussion, later Usman sahib invited him to restaurant. Their discussion covered various aspects of religion; Usman sahib asked him about important issues, person could give customary answers then Usman sahib taught him real concepts and teachings and gifted him translation of Holy Quran and some books and asked to give comments...Person read and found that his thoughts were changed to positive, later the person did Bai'at and felt honor to know Imam Mahdi (as) and his true Jama'at.

==

A group of Ahmadi children were traveling by train with some elders, they were going for religious learning class. When they offered Salaat in congregation, fanatics opponents threatened them to harm them at a certain incoming station. Incharge of students assigned people security duties and Usman sahib was there too, he asked to be assigned some duty too...He was told to start praying for situation, he began to pray.....Train kept moving, fanatic opponent leader kept sleeping and sleeping, even he missed his own station, and so the group was saved by Allah the Exalted.

==

A person’s problem was not being taken care by home-office, they would say his record in UK was missing, he kept going for 3-4 months, there was no hope....One day he met Usman chini sahib who was going home after Salaat, person told him problem and requested him for prayer. Usman sahib began to pray right there with a lot of crying in prayers, some more people too joined prayer.....Next day, person’s lawyer telephoned to office, no one attended, the director Mr. Richard was passing from there, he picked phone and heard the matter... Director asked, the person should meet him directly.... When the person went, people at reception and other people did not believe it, no one was ready to inform the director.... Eventually, one employee informed the director. Director himself came and took the person to his office and checked all record in computer, and called secretary and ordered passport should be issued to person. Then Director came out to say goodbye to the person, people in office were surprised at the scene.....These were crying prayers of Usman sahib which resolved 4 months pended work in a day, by the hands of high official.

==

Before coming to UK, after the official Jama'at meetings, Usman sahib would not wait for a ride, he would immediately begin to walk to his place which was far, then someone himself would give him ride or any other would solution appeared....... At that time, he was living humbly in a room in a mission house, place was limited, this room was being used as living room, sitting room and kitchen. The same room was being used by lady worshipers, then things were to be moved away.

==

A colleague who worked with Usman sahib for 33 years in Chinese-desk, said about Usman sahib’s keen interest till end, in offering Salaat in congregation in mosque, regardless rain storm or snowfall, it was model for us. He would offer Tahajjud regularly too.... Once they went to China. Journey was long, there was lengthy late talk with local Ahmadis too, yet Usman sahib was seen offering Tahajjud........(Usman sahib has written when he came from China to Rabwah, he was influenced by elders’ deep passions in Tahajjud, they would keep Fasts, and pray. Allah the Exalted accepted their prayer. Usman sahib resolved to follow the steps of those elders. He was in guidance of Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah II ra, he would get benefit from company of Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad sahib ra and  Hazrat Mirza Sharif Ahmad sahib ra, Hazrat Molana Ghulam Rasul Rajeki sahib ra and others....Allah the Exalted gave more shining to Usman sahib through these elders. His relation with Allah the Exalted improved).

--

Same colleague says, Usman sahib was very zealous in conveying message though commonly he was a silent person by nature. He would speak for conveying message for hours.

--

He inherited attribute of serving guests from his father. There was no hotel in their village in China, his father would say our house serve as hotel....In later life, wife of Usman sahib would support him serving guests.

--

He considered emotions of everyone. Once there was meeting, it was late. Someone said please come to our place, he did not deny and went.

==

Counsels given by  Usman sahib became very beneficial to a missionary sahib, who was sent to China to convey message of Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) in many areas. Many thousand people recieved folders and books.....At every place Usman sahib was mentioned in very good way he is considered a great scholar of Islam in China.

--

Usman sahib’s written Chinese books will keep his name alive. His books and translations are like ocean which he derived from spiritual treasures of Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom peace) and took to people through translation. His eloquent Chinese language attracts people.........

--

When this missionary (who was benefited by Usman sahib’s counsels) visited a muslim-religious-school, people did not show any special reaction but on second visit, all Chinese muslims and imam sahib met with affection. He asked its reason from a friend. He told, the books you had given to Chinese imam, he read out those for us, these were the Chinese translation of selected writings of Hazrat promised Messiah (a.s.), it creates state of ecstacy in us. We have never heard such beautiful writing in our whole life before. We want more such books from you..........

--

Missionary  sahib also visited ancestral village of Usman sahib, his dears and relatives met, all of them remembered Usman sahib with great respect and love, everyone would come and tell his relation to Usman sahib very happily...They took great care of missionary sahib only because he knew Usman sahib and was representative of Jama'at Ahmadiyya........

--

Translation of Holy Quran by Usman sahib is very clear and easy, everyone can understand it, it reflects eloquence of Chinese language. Despite, other translation of Holy Quran are present in Chinese, but translation by Usman sahib is popular in all China and considered as authority. Many Chinese scholars liked this translation very much despite having differences with creed of Jama'at; they very much want to understand Holy Quran....

--

During visit of an area, when an elderly imam saw this translation, his eyes became bright, and he said he was looking for it since long time, can you give me. He was told, right now they have one copy, if he give his address we can get a coy from Usman sahib for you. He pondered for some times and said please give it to me for short time, I will make photocopy...Seeing his zeal and readiness to make photocopy of 1450 pages, we gave him this Holy Quran. He became so much happy and was thankful as if he gained an very expensive treasure (surely it is treasure) he was unable to control his delight.

--

Other missionaries in China write also , wherever they went Usman sahib was mentioned.

==

Another missionary sahib mentioned Usman sahib showed  him a place in Kallarkahar where, when he was student in Jamia, he used to do chilla (prayer in seclusion). Usman sahib told this missionary sahib that once during chilla, he prayed for a person who did not have child since 10 years of marriage. When Usman sahib prayed he saw in dream Hazrat Chaudhry Zafrulla Khab sahib is sleeping on bed...Usman sahib gave person glad tiding Allah the Exalted will give him son...It so happened....(Hazrat khalifaul Messiah V a . t. said when he was little in time of Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah II ra, he went to small room where Usman sahib was holding Holy Quran in hand and was praying, children and elders asked him for prayer. He would answer with smile and was very kind)

==

In 2004, Usman sahib was diagnosed heart disease with had no cure; there was no method except prayer and some common medicine, such people survive few years. But surprisingly, despite signs of weakness, he never let illness stop him doing duties and worship. Once someone saw, snow had fallen, yet Usman sahib came to mosque for Tahajjud.

==

In short, Usman sahib has left very big vacant space. He was elder of high rank, he would do lot of prayers and his prayers were answered, very regular in Salaats, would go to mosque despite illness and weakness, very virtuous, harmless and kind, wanted good for everyone, would give good counsel, simple minded, frank, very much hospitable and would treat guests with love, very courageous, busy in serving Deen despite illness, would fulfill duty with love, sincerity and hard work, very pointed passion  to keep doing service of Deen, true, no-show off, a loyal servant of Ahmadiyya Khilafat, would always meet cheerfuly and smile.

==

Usman sahib had countless qualifies, above mentioned are reality. May Allah continue to raise stations of Usman Chini sahib higher and higher, and grant patience to his family and save them and help them, may Allah the Exalted make his children heir of his virtues and prayers, and may they walk on his steps. (Aameen)
