One the most incredible spectacles I have ever witnessed. I was all booked to travel to Nicaragua last year to see the Masaya volcano. This is the world's only easily accessible lava lake. My present state of health rule out the other lava lakes. However the damned CIA started fomenting unrest there and I had to reschedule.
I should have mentioned that Mount Yasur is in the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. Vanuatu is in the South Pacific. The capital Port Vila is four hours from Sydney. The Yasur eruptions are of the Strombolian type, named after Mount Stromboli in Italy.

I went on a two hour whale watching trip yesterday. We saw several humpback whales. These amazing mammals are on their way to their winter retreats in tropical Queensland from Antarctica.
We saw several blow as they exhaled on surfacing, with a spray of water. Next they bent their bodies above the water in order to submerge themselves. On two occasions they displayed their tails in what is referred to as a "tail fluke" prior to diving. Nothing spectacular yesterday like "breaches" when they heave their 40 ton bodies out of the water before crashing back on to the surface of the ocean. I have seen this on an earlier whale watching trip. I have seen humpback whales at very close range in Antarctica.
