IDF troops kill five Palestinians

Five Palestinians were killed in clashes with Israel Defense Forces troops over the weekend. Four were killed in the West Bank city of Nablus while in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, a young Palestinian man was shot dead by troops, apparently while working on an explosive.
The central market in Nablus has been a recent focal point of violence. For three weeks, the IDF has been conducting sustained operations in the city's casbah area.
Three of the fatal incidents in Nablus happened yesterday morning. IDF sources said two of those killed, Rawhi Shuman, 19, and Amer Arafat, 26, were armed - one was preparing to toss a Molotov cocktail at soldiers, and the other had drawn a pistol.
A 15 year old, Amjed al-Masri was shot and killed in Nablus after youngsters on a rooftop hurled bricks at soldiers. Later, al-Masri's 17 year old cousin, Mohammad al-Masri, was mortally wounded during a violent incident while a pallbearer at Amjed's funeral.
Speaking about the funeral incident, an IDF source said soldiers opened fire at two Palestinians, one who was armed with a gun, and the other who held a petrol bomb.
Two other Palestinians were seriously injured in clashes with IDF troops in Nablus on Friday night.
Downtown Nablus has been under curfew for at least six days while IDF soldiers search for suspects. Yesterday was the most violent day in Nablus since four militants were killed in clashes on December 18.
In Gaza, Palestinian sources said a 17 year old teenager was killed in Khan Yunis by IDF gunfire. The IDF Spokesman said a large, 60-kilogram bomb was found where the youth was shot while trying to crawl toward the Ganei-Tal settlement in Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip.
