OK got a question for everyone from any Country.
I want lotsa answers
If you are put out of a Job thru no Fault of your own (ie downsizing) we call that being made redundant.
Now if you are made redundant you will get by law.
out of the company pocket.
4 weeks pay for each week of service (or part thereof)
All Long Service Entitlement paid out (if over 5 years)
All Annual leave Paid out.
and this is all taxed quite lightly,
and only over the value of $5600 plus $2800 per year of service.
I am made redundant after 20 years service on say $1000 per week when made redundant.
I would get
$1000 * ((20*4) + (15 LSL in weeks)) = $95000
$61600 of that totally tax free.
and the rest taxed at around 20%
So yeah does anyone else have mandatory Redundancy payments.
I ask as I don't believe the US do
or if they do the workers complaining about losing their jobs never mention it.
Also we get NO LESS than 4 weeks Annual leave each year for a full timer.

Nice how you question the pay rate not the fact that this would mean I was working since my fourth birthday.
It was an example.
Unfortunatly I have never been made redundant, tis a friggin fabulous way to leave a job. as you usually get re-employed as a contractor if you are still required.
And to you PoleCatHunter
you reread and see if you can find the difference,
I'll give you a hint,
one you get a stack of money, the other you don't,
I really must stress that I would consider 4 weeks pay for each year of service somewhat handy if being laid off.
A real example,
Ansett went bust, as yall should know but if not Australias 2nd bigest airline
Every single employee got a redundancy package on the guidelines as above (except they have only got 71 cents in the dollar thus far, ie 71%of$95,000)
So you see when say General Motors FOR EXAMPLE moves from Ohio to Detroit to save 4% on operating costs they would have to consider their employees as well not just tell them
"well its been fun we are hiring over in Detroit if you interested"
NoNo they would have to pay 4 weeks at the current payrate for each and every employee not re-employed by GM and then say "well its been fun we are hiring over in Detroit if you interested"
So you see it makes employers consider their workers,
