However I believe the notion of God's law resides with us even when God himself gets 'discarded'. If you were taught this early as I have, this would prove true.

It is not far from part - but only part - of the commandments, a set of rules without which a single human or a human society disgregates.
Not far from the kernel of common laws in a healty community.
But there is something more interesting in the "enlightment path", whose aim is to make you free.
More you become free, more your set of choices becomes narrow, because when you see clearly, you also see which choice is right, and usually there is only one.
So you have no choice, really, because doing otherwise would be to go down the ladder.
